The infinite sequence of the whole numbers is digital — each integer is separated from the next by a distinct and unfillable gap that is part of the syntax of the system. (The digital gap is not the same as the space between words, which is a gap on each side of it.) The infinite sequence of the real numbers is analog — there is an infinity of differences between every other difference in the system.
